2006-02-10-BULGARIA CONTINUES IMPLEMENTING MEASURES AGAINST BIRD FLU
Bulgaria's bird flu crisis headquarters approved the Agriculture Ministry's request for the allocation of additional 300 000 leva for the purchase of laboratory tests and protective clothing.
Health Minister Radolsav Gaidarski and Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil also requested helicopter transportation for easier monitoring of high-risk areas, the Bulgarian news agency reported.
On February 15 epidemiologists and medical experts will meet to discuss preventive measures.
Patrolling teams in different Bulgarian regions continue searching for dead birds near lakes and rivers. More than 300 bird samples have been sent for testing in the Silistra region.
Inspectors examined more than 1800 bird farms. Regional governors already consider extraordinary measures in case the infection affects domestic birds.
Yesterday two more dead swans tested positive for the presence of the dangerous H5 bird flu virus. The samples are still examined and will be sent for further tests in Britain.
