BEIJING, Jan. 12, 2006 (UPI) -- A 6-year-old boy, who became China's eighth bird flu patient, was reported improving Thursday, two days suffering serious damage to both lungs.
The official Xinhua news agency said the boy's breathing had improved and that doctors had seen a reduction in the shadows around his lungs. The boy, confirmed as China's eighth human case of H5N1 bird flu, was being treated at a hospital in Hunan Province.
The boy was taken to the hospital Dec. 25 after developing fever and pneumonia symptoms.
